Blogs and politics in Canada: Blogs lose.

Slashdot and The Globe & Mail both cover this latest story of a website being shut down by political operatives - this time in Ontario, although it puts me in mind of our experience here in PEI last winter...

Slashdots article is titled:
Canadian Domain Registry Pulls Plug on Free Speech

The Globe & Mail article is titled:
Campaign gets tangled in website spoof
It quotes Volpe as saying:
"My Office has had the website suspended through CIRA [Canadian Internet Registration Authority] and CDNS [Canadian Domain Name Services] and it will be down as soon as 6 p.m. I think the issue with the website has been dealt with. . . ."

I also saw this news on drudge but I can't find it now...
Slashdots registration process allows you to register with your name or post as an 'anonymous coward' . Puts me in mind of Concerned Islander.

Bottom line: Free speech on Canadian blogs is bound to be censored when it hits a political nerve. Authority always wins. Oh yeah, and a big 'fuck you' to whoever posted to my site under the name Concerned Islander (AKA anonymous coward).
