ADM: Gas Station to The World. If you burn Ethanoil.
NY Times reports on ethanol. Ethanol is agricultures Quebec; a political play that ends the same every time, big (not small, family farms) agriculture corporations shine in the sun of governments bright silver, winning grants of cash to save the planet. An eco cheerleader like myself may even be tempted to applaud the green approach. But something doesn't seem right in the economics of it all - the poor factor I'll call it. For example, if Ethanol is an worthy alternative to replace gas, why doesn't the poor part of the world run on it already? It costs more to make ethanol than the energy put into it, let alone the corruption cost of mispending by government (they are really buying votes, not fuel). The only thing agriculture has to offer by way of locomotion to replace gas is the horse. Now, Willy Nelson burns bio-fuel, which is slightly different in that it is waste (used cooking oil) diverted into fuel, instead of being wasted. Now, how many french fries per gallon do I get to eat?
